Sign in with Login.gov
- Visit the FMCSA Portal website https://portal.fmcsa.dot.gov/login
- From the login page, select "To register for a portal account, please click here."
- Select “Sign in with Login.gov”
- On the Login.gov sign in screen, enter your email address and password (if you have an existing Login.gov account); or click “Create an account” (if you do not have an existing Login.gov account).
Once you have successfully signed in with Login.gov and are on the FMCSA Portal account request page, take the following steps to set up your portal account:
FMCSA Portal Account Creation Page
Step 1: Select User Type
- Indicate that you are a company user by selecting the button next to "Company Employee or an Associate of a Company".
- Click the "Next" button.
Step 2: Select Portal Roles
- In the "* USDOT #" field enter the USDOT# of the appropriate company and click the "Lookup" button. The system will return a message that there are no company officials listed for this company. See ** below.
- Select "OK" and the system will then prompt for the USDOT PIN number for the company.
- In order to request your USDOT PIN by mail, please follow this link: https://li-public.fmcsa.dot.gov/LIVIEW/PKG_PIN_START.PRC_INTRO
- Enter the PIN into the "* USDOT PIN" field and click "Verify”.
- Select "Company Official" from the "Available Roles" field and then click the "Add Role" button. Company official should then move into the "Requested Roles" field.
- In the "* Reason for Request" field, indicate the reason for registering for a portal account.
- Once all of these steps are completed, click the "Next" button and continue to Step 3.
**If the system indicates that there is already a company official registered for this USDOT#, please register for a user account by taking the following steps:
- Select the desired roles from the "Available Roles" field.
- Click the "Add Role>" button. The roles selected should then move into the "Requested Roles" field.
- In the "* Reason for Request" field indicate the reason for registering for this portal account.
- Once all of these steps are completed, click the "Next" button.
- Once registered, the requested roles must be approved by the company official through the CO's portal account.
Step 3: Personal Information / Security Identification
On this page, personal information will be entered and the account User ID will be created.
- Fill out every field with a red "*" next to it.
- Your FMCSA Portal Account User ID will automatically be set to the email address associated with the Login.gov you used to sign in.
Step 4: Work Information
This page will collect company information.
- Once you have filled out the "Address", "City", "Postal Code", "Phone #", "Company Legal Name", and "Job Title" fields and made the appropriate selection in the “State/Prov” menu, click the "Next" button.
Step 5: Rules of Behavior
Please select the following options:
- By checking these boxes, I certify that:
- I understand the terms and conditions stated in the above Rules of Behavior
- I understand and have reviewed the FMCSA Portal Overview Training Materials
- Once a selection is made to indicate that the two items above are understood, click the "Submit" button.
- You will receive notification that the account has been created:
- Company Official: Within 24-48 hours an email will be sent advising that the portal account has been successfully created and is ready for use.
- Other Company User: You will receive notification that the account is pending. The Company Official will need to approve the account before it is ready for use.
Making Updates in Portal Account
After receiving the email that your portal account has been created, navigate to https://li-public.fmcsa.dot.gov/LIVIEW/PKG_REGISTRATION.prc_option
- Click “Take me to FMCSA Portal”
- Click “Sign in with Login.gov”
- Once logged in, if you are not already in the Portal, click “Continue to FMCSA Portal”
- In the top left click “Registration” and then “Biennial Update (MCS-150)”
- At the bottom under “MCS-150 Update” click “Continue” and proceed to make necessary changes.
Portal Account Error
After logging into the portal account, if you receive an error message and the company information is not shown, you will need to contact FMCSA.
They will escalate the issue to the portal team, who will clear the account so that you can start over.
