Customers may sometimes report discrepancies in trip miles. These differences may arise from two sources:

  • They might be comparing our provided trip miles with services like Google Maps (keep in mind that small variations are normal as we don't use Google Maps),
  • Or they could be comparing the trip miles displayed on DAT One with what RateView shows.

To pinpoint the issue, follow these steps:

  1. Ask the customer for the Origin and Destination.
  2. Check if there's a duplicate city in the state for either the Origin or Destination. Customers may use the wrong city or zip code in their search or post. If no duplicate cities exist, proceed to the next step.
  3. Check the trip miles and route displayed on RateView (single-lane search) and DAT One (create a test posting).
  4. Compare the trip miles and route from RateView and DAT One with Google Maps. Expect minor variations as we don't rely on Google Maps, but significant differences could indicate an issue.
  5. Refer to your test posting in DAT One and inspect the zip codes assigned to the Origin and Destination.
  6. Verify that the zip codes are correct:
    1. Enter the zip code into either the Origin or Destination box in a search to see which cities appear.
    2. Alternatively, you can check https://tools.usps.com/zip-code-lookup.htm?citybyzipcode.
Issues often stem from incorrect zip codes, leading to inaccurate trip miles and route information.
  7. Report your findings in the #specialists channel. Specialists will confirm the issue and notify Louis Ronat for further assistance.
